Coyle absence downplayed

Owen Coyle remains fully committed to Burnley despite skipping his customary post-match press conference, according to number two Sandy Stewart.

Stewart deputised for the Clarets boss following Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup third round win over MK Dons.

His absence has led to frenzied speculation that he could be on the way to reported suitors Bolton Wanderers.

However, Stewart claims the former Bolton player remains 100 per cent committed to his job at Turf Moor.

He explained: "Owen has not seen his family over Christmas and has to get to a flight to Scotland from Luton.

"If he did all the press he would miss that flight, so there's nothing to read into him not being here.

"The speculation is just the same as the stuff that linked him with the Celtic job in the summer.

"As of now, it remains speculation and until something happens, that's exactly what it is.

"I do know that Owen is very happy at Burnley. We have worked very hard and we think we have done a reasonable job here, so we are quite happy.

"Owen and I have a great partnership and we have worked together at St Johnstone and Burnley.

"Hopefully that partnership will continue and right at this moment in time that's at Burnley Football Club.

"We love it here and we think we are taking the club forward and that's all we are interested in." Coyle cools Bolton speculation

Burnley manager Owen Coyle has no interest in leaving Turf Moor to become Gary Megson's successor at Bolton Wanderers.

Coyle spent part of his playing career with the Trotters but is happy with his current job in charge of the Clarets.

He said: "It is a fantastic job for someone out there but my focus is on doing the best against MK Dons this weekend.

"I have had speculation time and time again but, as always, I am concentrating on the job in hand."

Meanwhile, joint Bolton caretaker manager Chris Evans does not want the Reebok Stadium job on a permanent basis.

Evans and head coach Steve Wigley are taking charge of the side for the weekend FA Cup third round clash with Lincoln City.

Evans said: "I will not be applying for this job. I have no intention of being the manager of Bolton Wanderers. But equally I would like to feel I am professional enough to do the best possible job I can during the time given to me.

"Steve and I come from similar backgrounds and have similar ideas. We have work to do and will continue to do that as best we can.

"I am surprised to be in this position. Gary called me yesterday with the news. I am disappointed as well as he gave me an opportunity to come here. But the decision was made by people over and above us.

"The issues with regards to the fans does not help. But now is the time to look forward. I have a professional job to do. I am under contract and will do whatever job is asked of me to the best of my ability.

"The remit we have is that we act in the best interests of the club until a new manager comes in so we are well prepared for each game." Wilshere on Burnley's radar

Burnley manager Owen Coyle has declared his interest in signing Arsenal starlet Jack Wilshere on loan.

The 17-year-old midfielder is one of the hottest properties to emerge from the north London club's youth academy in recent years and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger recently suggested that he would like to send the youngster out on loan.

That has alerted Coyle to the potential availability of the England youth and under-21 international.

"He's a quality player, a young player who I believe will go on to be real star in the future," said Coyle.

"If Arsene says he's available on loan then I think there'd be a host of clubs interested in that type of player.

"We're interested in a lot of players to enhance the squad and, if Jack Wilshere is one of those, who knows?" Coyle hails Clarets faithful

The game against Arsenal gives Coyle the chance to address a run of form that has seen his side win just one of their last six games.
He said: "The fans were brilliant. We have to pay credit to their support because it gives the players a lift and it really drives them on.
"I can't ask any more of the players I've got and we have to do that again on Wednesday night and make Turf Moor a real fortress."

Coyle hints at quiet January

Burnley manager Owen Coyle will focus on agreeing new deals with the raft of players that are out of contract in the summer rather than looking to strengthen his squad with new acquisitions in January.

No fewer than 11 senior players are out of contract at the end of the season.

"We are always planning," said the Clarets boss. "The boys I've got here I would love to stay here with me.

"I will make recommendations to the board and ultimately it's up to them to come back and say 'yes we can do it or we can't' and I will take it from there.

"We would love to bring another one or two in to give the lads we've got a boost and a bit of freshness when January comes, but finance will dictate that.

"As we've shown already this season, if we don't have the level of finance that the rest of the Premier League have we'll get on with it.

"We don't moan about it and we make a fist of what we've got. Yes, we'd love to freshen it up, but if we don't then we'll get on with it."

McCann's recovery on target

Burnley midfielder Chris McCann is on course to make a quicker than expected return to fitness after suffering a serious knee injury in September.

The 22-year-old sustained medial and cruciate ligament damage in the 3-1 win over Sunderland and had been expected to require surgery to complete his comeback.

However, Clarets boss Owen Coyle told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "He's training well and he's certainly getting better. We just want Chris back playing because he's such a big, big part of Burnley Football Club.

"Initially we said it would be a minimum of three months and we said that knowing that if the cruciate didn't re-attach, it might be longer. But there was a chance it would.

"It's great he's making progress, but I'm not one for saying 'he'll be back on January 10' because you don't want to put a timeframe on it.

"All we're saying is he's moving along nicely and the sooner we get him back, the better."
